Who are Purley Canoe Club?

PCC was formed in 1991 to provide paddlers in the area around Purley in Surrey a variety of canoeing and kayaking activities. PCC now has members in Croydon, Sutton and beyond.

The Club has a number of BCU qualified coaches able to provide both canoe and kayak training. The Club also has boats and equipment available for hire.

Whilst the club is all about having fun on the water we put a great deal of emphasis on safety and training. This allows new paddlers to develop skills at their own pace within a safe environment.

What does the Club do?

The Club is primarily a flat water touring club. A typical trip on a local river would be around eight miles. However, as you will see below our trips cover a wide range of recreational paddling.

Throughout the year we paddle local rivers like the Thames, Wey, Mole and Medway. Four or five times a year we organise weekend trips, either camping or staying in budget accommodation.

Trips in the last few years have included, canoe camping on the Thames, white water paddling in Devon and North Wales, touring the Wye and Severn and sea kayaking in the Dover area.

Other activities are also arranged such a training days, taking part in BCU events, open canoeing, surf kayaking and so on.

From September to May we hold training sessions, in a local school swimming pool, on Saturday evenings.

Keeping Members Informed

Once a month the Club has a Club Night. This gives members a chance to talk about recent events, share their experience and tell tall canoe stories.

The Club has a monthly newsletters called 'Clublines’ to keep members informed of what's going on.
The Club is run by an elected committee in accordance with a written constitution, BCU rules and guidelines. This ensures members safety, development and enjoyment.

You will find our member's enthusiasm is infectious! There's no better way to enjoy the sport than developing your skills in the company of keen fellow paddlers. We pride ourselves on being a very friendly and sociable club.
